Counseling Center

Attention Seniors:

Transcript Processing Forms for college applications with a December 1st deadline are due to the Counseling Center no later than Friday, November 5th.

College Representatives will be meeting with students VIRTUALLY this year through Naviance. For the most up to date list of college visits, go to the “What’s New” section listed on your Naviance Homepage.
To join a meeting, please report to the SHSE Library with your Chromebook. From your Naviance Homepage: go to the “Colleges” tab, go to the “Research College” section, click on “College Visits” then click on the “Virtual Visit Link” for the meeting you are joining. If the URL is through Zoom, you will receive a message prompting you to “Add Zoom to Chrome”. To access the meeting through Zoom, scroll down and click on “Join from your Browser” then proceed to the meeting.
**If you are unable to log into your Naviance account, come to the Counseling Center for Assistance.

If you plan to prepare for a career in teaching and attend a State University of New York or two-year Community College, come to the Counseling Center to request nomination consideration for a scholarship opportunity by Friday, November 12th.

If you plan on pursuing a career as a physician and would like to participate in the Doctors of Tomorrow Scholarship Program, come to the Counseling Center to register by Friday, October 22nd. Additional details are provided in the October Senior Scholarship bulletin.

Clubs & Sports

The Health Office is now accepting Physicals and Medical Update Forms for the upcoming Winter Sports.

This week is Red Ribbon Week. The SADD Club will be hosting a Spirit Week.
Monday is TROPICAL DAY. Please wear something tropical and stop by the commons for giveaways!
Tuesday is Neon Day
Wednesday is RED OUT day
Thursday is Orange and black day
Friday is Costume Day
Please help support Red Ribbon Week and dress up each day!

Smithtown East's new Debate Club will meet on Thursday at 2:05 in room 338. All are welcome.

Smithtown High School East Drama Club Proudly Presents
"Twisted Tales of Terror"

If you like scary stories but need a good laugh these days, this comedic play retells the "true" stories of classic horror stories like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Werewolves, The Witches and a couple of Mummies.
Performances will be Thursday, 10/28, Friday, 10/29 & Saturday, 10/30 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium.
$ 10 tickets will be sold in the Commons during all lunch periods 4th -8th all week or at the door.

Career Center

Students who are looking for volunteer work, jobs or internships, can visit the Smithtown High School Career Center's website located at www.tinyurl.com/smithtowncareercenter. There is also a link on this website for resume and cover letter writing. In addition, there are many Career Planning resources listed for students who are looking toward their future.

If you are interested in a summer employment program, a local job, an internship or need help planning your future, please contact Ms. Grafstein via e-mail (mgrafstein@smithtown.k12.ny.us) or stop in the Career Center (Room 123B across from computer lab 124)

If any students are interested in a career being a Doctor, Nurse, Physicians Assistant, Physical Therapy or in a variety of other Healthcare careers....you may be interested in two programs currently being offered by the Career Center:

1. Healthcare Career Exploration Internship Program in conjunction with St. Catherine of Siena. Open to Juniors and Seniors. There will be 1-2 seminars weekly ONLINE + 3 In-person Tours. If interested please pick up an Application in the Career Center or the CTE Office. This program will run 2nd semester and is worth 1/2 credit. Applications are due November 5th.

2. Nursing Exploration Program - Open to all 10th - 12th graders. There will be 4 seminars ONLINE + 1 In-person Tour. You will explore various career paths within Nursing in conjunction with Memorial Sloan Kettering. The link to the Application is on the Career Center Website or See Mrs. Grafstein in the Career Center. Application is due by November 1.
