Counseling Center

Attn Seniors: Please see the following scholarship opportunities:

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation- Students who are leaders, both academically and in service to others, may be interested in applying to the Coca- Cola Scholars Program. Deadline is October 31, 2020.

Horatio Alger Association- The Horatio Alger Association welcomes eligible high school seniors to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarships, which range from $10,000 to $25,000. The application is open until October 25, 2020.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation- The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. The 2021 Cooke College Scholarship Program application closes on October 30, 2020.

If you plan to prepare for a career in teaching and attend a State University of New York or two-year Community College, come to the Counseling Center or email dcoppola@smithtown.k12.ny.us to request nomination consideration for a scholarship opportunity by Friday, November 13th.

Attention 11th and 12th grade students: Due to social distancing concerns related to COVID-19, the North Shore College Consortium has decided instead to share links to the colleges that would have been in attendance at our high schools Fall Mini College Fair. Please note that space may be limited.

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT: Our evening parent workshop will be presented VIRTUALLY on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 7:00PM. Please mark your calendar for this informative presentation. Applicants and their families will be able to start the FAFSA in October 2020, using the same data they reported on their 2019 tax returns. The use of older data means families can start the process earlier and most won’t have to rely on estimates.

Attention Seniors: Colleges will be hosting virtual visits for SHS East students beginning September 21st. Go to the "What's New" section on your Naviance homepage to view session times, sign up for a visit and access URL codes. You can also view a list of upcoming visits in the Counseling Center Google Classroom under "Virtual College Visits". Be sure to sign up for visits during times when you are not attending in person instruction at school.

Clubs/Activities

Did you know the School of Business Club is open to all students, not just students in business classes! Check us out from your cozy couch. The Smithtown School of Business is proud to present the 2020 Business Olympics Competition! This year's competition will be conducted virtually, and student team registration has officially opened! Smithtown East DECA will be holding a school food drive with Long Island Cares starting Monday, October 19th and ending Friday, October 30th. Boxes will be located in business classrooms and in commons. You can earn up to an hour of community service for bringing in a bag of 10 nonperishable food items as well as Active Member Credits! Local food banks are in dire need and DECA can use your help!

All National Honor Society students: please respond to your email with the google classroom code. Information about officer applications will be posted there.

Jr's or Sr's WHO ARE INTERESTED IN HEALTHCARE CAREERS
St Catherine's Healthcare Career Exploration Internship Program will be accepting applications until November 1, 2020
This program is open to Juniors and Seniors (Seniors will be given priority).
The Program will be fully REMOTE at this time.

Habitat for Humanity meets every other Thursday at 3:00. Google Classroom code:gnbqhqa

The SADD Club will be meeting virtually on Mondays at 3:00. You can find the Google Classroom and Remind Codes posted outside Room 121.

Fall drivers ed registration began October 5th and runs until October 23rd. Applications are available in the main office and on the school website. Classes will begin November 2nd.
